Career Connections: Experts discuss non-technical writing skills for researchers at Princeton

In this Career Connection, Nicole and Alaina will be focusing on how to present scientific concepts and information in a non-technical manner for a general audience and explore different venues and opportunities for non-technical writing.

Alaina O’Regan is the Engineering Communication Specialist for the departments of electrical and computer engineering (ECE) and mechanical and aerospace engineering (MAE) at Princeton University. She writes research news and feature stories and creates multimedia content including videos, photos and graphics that translate complex research for wide audiences. She manages the ECE and MAE websites and social media accounts, and her news articles serve as a resource for journalists, who often draw from university press releases when covering science and engineering.

Nicole Yunger Halpern is a Senior Investigator for RQS, Fellow of the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS), a Physicist at the NIST, a Co-Leader of the Maryland Quantum-Thermodynamics Hub, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland. Yunger Halpern re-envisions 19th-century thermodynamics for the 21st century, using the mathematical toolkit of quantum information theory. She received her doctorate in physics from Caltech in 2018.
