Duke and Yale

Quantum Insider, the leading provider of news on the quantum computing market, has named Duke University and Yale University as two of the top universities worldwide for quantum research, following Stanford University.

The article notes that Duke has established itself as a leader in quantum computing, particularly in the field of trapped-ion quantum technology with prominent researchers such as Christopher Monroe, the Gilhuly Family Presidential Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a pioneer in trapped-ion quantum computing; and Kenneth Brown, the Michael J. Fitzpatrick Distinguished Professor of Engineering known for his work in quantum error correction.

Brown is a Co-PI and Co-Associate Director of Research at the NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation (RQS), where Monroe is a senior investigator.

Brown also co-leads RQS’s first research challenge on verified quantum simulations with Iman Marvian, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Duke.

Norbert Linke, an assistant professor of physics at Duke, co-leads RQS’ third research challenge of scalable quantum simulations for science technology.

Additional Duke faculty in RQS include Robert Calderbank, a professor of electrical engineering, computer science and mathematics; and Henry Pfister, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and mathematics.

Following Duke, Quantum Insider recognizes Yale University as third for quantum research worldwide, arguing that Yale has established itself as a leader in the field, fostering collaboration across physics, engineering, and computer science.

Shruti Puri, an assistant professor of applied physics at Yale and senior investigator in RQS, does research at the intersection of quantum optics and quantum information theory.

Supported by the National Science Foundation, RQS is a partnership between Yale, Duke, the University of Maryland, Princeton University, and North Carolina State University.
