University of Maryland theoretical computer scientist Daniel Gottesman recently participated in an Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) on the popular Reddit platform, answering queries on quantum computing and quantum information science.

Gottesman is the Brin Family Endowed Professor in Theoretical Computer Science and a co-director of the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS).

His research is focused on quantum error correction, fault-tolerant quantum computation, quantum cryptography and quantum complexity. He is best known for developing the stabilizer code formalism for creating and describing a large class of quantum codes and for work on performing quantum gates using quantum teleportation.

He also has an appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies and is a senior investigator in the NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation.
