Career Connections: Shraddha Singh (IBM) on Life as a PhD Student

A professional headshot of a woman

Shraddha Singh is a Research Scientist at IBM who works at the intersection of theory, experiment, and architecture in quantum computing. She earned her PhD at Yale University, where she studied how quantum information can be protected and manipulated in hybrid systems that combine qubits and oscillators. Her research spans quantum error correction, bosonic codes, and superconducting circuits, with a particular focus on understanding how real physical devices behave and how that physics should inform the design of error-corrected architectures. Along the way, she has contributed to both theoretical frameworks and experimental demonstrations of quantum error correction beyond break-even, and has worked closely with experimental groups to bridge abstract ideas and hardware reality. Shraddha is also passionate about building shared infrastructure for the field. She co-founded the Quantum Protocol Zoo to make quantum protocols more accessible, comparable, and reusable, especially for students entering the field. At RQS Connections, her talk will touch on the many facets of life as a PhD student.
